Wild Yellowstone 2012

This series of images was captured during a trip to the US in June and July 2012.

In June and July of 2012, I along with a group of fellow photographers travelled to the US. Our tour included the great national parks of Yellowstone and Grand Teton. I’d been to both a on previous occasions, but never in early summer. Yellowstone in particular offers a wonderful array of photographic interest. Our visit was timed for the emergence of spring. Not only did explore the fabulous thermal features we also photographed the carpets of spring flowers, the new born bison calves as well as elk and moose in their velvet. We visited many great locations including Fountain Paintpots, Old Faithful, Upper Geyser Basin, Norris, Grand Prismatic Spring, Black Sand Basin, Mammoth Hot Springs, and of course the now famous Tangled Creek. Everyone who has travelled to Yellowstone will be familiar with these locations. They might even manage to include a visit to the West Yellowstone Rodeo. However, few photographers will be aware that the greater Yellowstone ecosystem has far more to offer. Three days of our tour were spent high up in the Beartooth Mountains. Here we were able to photograph a variety of birds at the nest including woodpeckers, flickers and owls. The following series of images are just a small sample of the many I managed to capture.
