The latest updates to Camera Raw (18.3), Lightroom Classic (15.3) and Lightroom Desktop (9.3) have been released to customers via the Creative Cloud App. These updates include new camera and lens support along with some new features. There are also bug fixes for all.

Film-Inspired Presets & Profiles [All Clients]

New Film-Inspired presets have been added under Style: Film-Inspired. Additionally, twelve new Film Profiles have been added to the Profile Browser.

Adobe state that the presets and Profiles were inspired by the look of classic film, although no specific film has been identified.

New to Camera Raw Only

Anamorphic Desqueeze.

Fix the aspect ratio of photos captured using anamorphic lenses (1.33x, 1.6x, 2.0x, and so on). Found in the Crop/Geometry panel.

Projection.

‘Bends’ the edges and corners of the photo into a more visually pleasing shape. Helps address the phenomenon of “stretched faces” near the edges and corners of wide-angle group photos, like selfies. Found in the Crop/Geometry panel, Manual Transforms.

Depth Range Mask.

Apply the Range Mask to any photo, using a depth map. Useful for selecting parts of the photo by visual depth, e.g., for fading out the background.

Firefly Boards [Lightroom Classic & Desktop]

‘Generate using Firefly’ now includes a new option to add images directly to Firefly Boards.

• Add up to 10 images at once to a Firefly Board.

• Quickly organise and continue your creative workflow within Firefly boards.

Note that Firefly Boards open in your web browser and the feature functions externally to Lightroom Classic & Desktop.

Assisted Culling Improvements [Lightroom Classic & Desktop]

The Assisted Culling model has been updated to improve subject focus scores. In particular, detection of shallow depth-of-field images. The reject filter has also more accurate at identifying images that should be discarded.

Performance [Lightroom Classic & Desktop]

Both versions of Lightroom see improvements in interactive slider performance for global and local edits, plus background processing for Denoise and Super Resolution.Windows users should also see better memory utilisation in Full Screen mode, and cloud sync download speed.

Lightroom Desktop also benefits from faster, smoother performance when editing photos with large masks. Additionally, Presets and Profiles, Distraction Removal, Lens Blur, and other masking operations should run more smoothly.

Edit in Photoshop [Lightroom Desktop]

Lightroom Desktop now includes support for the PSB file type. This will make it easier to import and work with large Photoshop files.

Pan and Zoom [Lightroom Desktop]

You can now pan and zoom while in the Crop tool, allowing you to position the crop bounds with greater precision.
