The latest updates to Camera Raw (17.5), Lightroom Classic (14.5) and Lightroom Desktop (8.5) have been released to customers via the Creative Cloud App. These updates include new camera and lens support along with minor feature enhancements and bug fixes.
Generative Remove [Camera Raw, Lightroom Classic & Desktop]
A new model for ‘Generative Remove’ includes improvements in replacing removed objects.
Dust Removal – Early Access [Camera Raw]
Camera Raw 17.5 includes an ‘Early Access’ feature that automatically removes dust and other sensor detritus from the photo. ‘Sensor Dust Removal’ can be found in the ‘Remove’ tool panel in the ‘Distraction Removal’ section.
As an Early Access feature, Adobe have a ‘Provide Feedback’ button within the Dust Removal panel.
Note – Visualise Spots is not supported when Automatic Dust Removal is enabled
Updated Copy & Paste Dialog [Lightroom Classic]
An enhanced Copy / Paste and Synchronise Settings dialog is included in Lightroom Classic 14.5.. The additional settings and options (drop-down menu) are based on customer feedback.
GPU Preview Generation [Lightroom Classic]
With Lightroom Classic 14.5, the GPU can be used for generating previews.
GPU usage for Preview Generation can be configured to the following:
Auto – Default value. App will use GPU for preview generation only if the following criteria are met:
- GPU has 16 GB or more VRAM
- GPU supports full acceleration by default
On – Force enable GPU preview generation
If the preference is set to ON, GPU will be used for Preview Generation, irrespective of the above mentioned conditions for Auto are met.
Off – Do not use GPU for preview generation
The above conditions have been added based on performance benchmarking during internal testing by Adobe engineering. Note – This is the recommended settings when your computer doesn’t meet the criteria specified above.
As the performance of this feature is hardware specific, preview generation using GPU may not be possible on older hardware or even very recent hardware with less than 16GB of VRAM or Unified Memory (M series Macs).
