Adaptive Blur Presets and Lens Blur Enhancements

A set of adaptive blur background presets has been added to Camera Raw, Lightroom Classic & Desktop.

A new Bokeh shape – “Anamorphic” has been added. Also, Cat Eye shape has been removed from the preset shape list, and has been added as an independent slider.

Remove Reflections [Camera Raw]

Reflection Removal (Mac Only)

This feature can be found with the ‘Remove‘ tool panel as shown in below screenshot. The purpose of Reflection Removal is to remove reflections from photos captured through windows. It works best when the window covers most of the field of view.

The slider allows you to blend between the original image (input) and the calculated images representing the window with reflections removed and the window with reflections towards the camera. Using the adjustment slider you can effectively adjust the strength of reflection removal. When using the slider, the key values to note are:

  • 0 – the input image
  • 100 – de-reflected (window reflections removed) image
  • -100 – reflection image (what the window was reflecting towards the camera)

After you are done removing reflections, you can continue editing your image just as you would do otherwise.

For best results, try the new feature following these suggestions:

  • Apply Window Reflection removal before applying any other edits to the image. The changes made to the image may be quite profound and render any changes you already made inappropriate.
  • Play with the feature slider and adjust the removal strength as appropriate.

Note that ‘Remove Reflections’ must be enabled via the Technology Previews dialog in Camera Raw Preferences.

Adaptive Monochrome Profile [Camera Raw]

This is a new monochrome version of the Adobe Adaptive (beta) profile first seen in Camera Raw 17.0. This profile supports images converted to B&W via the treatment button as well as monochrome raw photos.

As with the Adobe Adaptive (beta) profile that shipped with Camera Raw 17.0, the Adaptive Monochrome profile is intended for use when editing images in HDR mode.

Hardware Controller Support [Lightroom Desktop]

This will allow third party hardware controllers (e.g. Loupedeck) to connect to and control Lightroom if and when the third party’s enable support on their end.

Edit in Photoshop [Lightroom Desktop]

Edit in Photoshop now supports selecting multiple files, Open as Smart Objects, and Edit in Layers in Photoshop

Preview Management [Lightroom Classic]

When connecting additional monitors, the preview size will dynamically adjust based on the screen being actively used, displaying at the resolution for either the primary or secondary monitor.

Lightroom Classic also now includes a menu item to delete standard and 1:1 previews for  selected images. To access this,

  • Go to Library Menu bar
  • Select Previews -> Discard Standard and 1:1 Previews
