The latest updates to Adobe Camera Raw (16.5), Lightroom Classic (13.5) and Lightroom Desktop (7.5) have been released to customers. They include new camera and lens support along with bug fixes. Only Lightroom Classic contains new features.

New in Lightroom Classic

Library and HDR View Update

The Lightroom Classic Library module now supports viewing photos in HDR within Loupe and Compare view. You can also view HDR in full screen view of Library and Develop module.

HDR view is an opt-in feature for the Library module. To enable it, go to Preferences > Performance and select “Enable HDR in Library”. If you don’t intend to use HDR Output in the Develop module, then don’t enable this preference otherwise you will experience a performance penalty with using Library loupe view and grid scrolling.

Also, note that for rendering HDR content in Library module, the previews need to be regenerated.

Sync Workflow

The Sync Activity in Sync Preference Window has returned to Sync Preferences. Stuck Assets can be deleted from the window, by right clicking on the path of the file which is syncing, and selecting “Remove from All Synced Photographs/Cloud” option.

Two new features have also been added to Sync:

• Sync status in Preference window with Remove option
• Added a new button in General tab, to generate simple diagnostics log

There is no longer a restriction on the file size to be uploaded. (In earlier releases, the limitation was 200 MB.)

Edit in PS Enhancements (Windows)

Some Scalability improvements to the Edit in PS workflow have been added. In the Lightroom Classic preferences, you can now choose between Photoshop Beta and the Photoshop Release version of the same year in Windows.

Map and Web Modules

The embedded browser framework that is used to render web content in Map and Web modules has been updated.

Book Module

The Text Layout Engine to support the  Book Module and Export to PDF Workflows has been updated.

What’s New

When LrC 13.5 is first launched after updating a ‘What’s New’ dialog will appear. This dialog provides a brief (very) of the new features and changes to be found in the update. You can also access it again from Help > What’s New.

Note that the reference Performance Improvements relates to fixing an issue experienced by Windows users when ‘Turbo Walking’ Develop module. Not sure what Turbo Walking is? Select an image in Develop module filmstrip, then press and hold down an arrow key. Images should pass through the loupe view very quickly.
