I’ve uploaded a gallery of images from a photo tour to the Iceland in October 2023. During this trip we took a clockwise route following Highway 1 (AKA The Ring Road) as it circumnavigates Iceland. We made many detours on the way to visit more remote and exciting locations.
The first few days took us along the popular southern coast of Iceland and we took in many of the highlights along the way.
Gaulverjabaejarkirkja Church, Stokkseyri
We visited many of the grand waterfalls as well as many lesser known falls. A visit to the Black Sand Beach at Vik with its powerful seas and sea stacks, then on to the magical Jokulsarlon Lagoon and iceberg beach.

As we reached the eastern extent of Highway 1 we visited Hofn and Stokksnes where we spent a few days photographing this dramatic area.

From Hofn travelled north. This is the more remote and less visited part of the island that we had not visited before.
Alcoa Fjardaal Smelting Works, Reydarfjodur
We passed the shores of Reydarfjordur with a detour to Eskifjordur and Seydisfjordur before reaching Egilsstadur. We spent a couple of days in this area exploring the remote north-east region of Iceland. From here we turned west across the northern part of Iceland. As we continued west we visited the amazing Godafoss waterfall.

Our journey also took us north from Highway 1 to the coastal town Husavik before rejoining Highway 1 on our travels to Akureyri. From Akureyri we headed south to Borgarnes detouring for a visit to the coastal town of Saudarkrokur.
Our final night was spent in Borgarnes. Here we got the opportunity to photograph the Aurora Borealis.
