Lightroom 3.2 and Camera Raw 6.2 Release Candidates

Adobe have just announed public release candidates of Lightroom and Camera Raw. These updates provide support for new camera models from Casio, Leica, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony along over 50 new or improved lens profiles. The ‘release candidate’ label indicates that this update is well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before being made available via Adobe’s automatic update service.

In addition to the new camera and lens support the Lightroom update addresses a number of bugs that surfaced after the release of Lightroom 3. A comprehensive list of bug fixes have been provide on the Lightroom Journal.

While it’s not normal practice to include feature enhancements with a dot release Adobe have included a few in Lightroom 3.2. Of particular interest to many long time users of Lightroom will be the reintroduction of the Metadata Filter feature that allowed users to configure and remember source specific filters (Sticky Filters). However, unlike the previous implementation of this feature it is now hidden way under the File>Library Filters menu (see screen shot).

Facebook users will be pleased to learn that a Publish Services plugin for Facebook has also been included with Lightroom 3.2. Last but not least, Lightroom now includes support for Photoshop Elements 9.

If you’ve arrived at this page and wondered where you are, don’t panic. You’re still in computer-darkroom.com. So why the new look and why the blog page? Answering the second question first will likley clear up the first. Using a blog page will allow me to provide more frequent updates along with any news, reviews and tips that I think may be of interest to the sites readers. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a simple template that allows me maintain the current header, but I’ll keep looking. In case you’re interested. The header image is a 10 frame panorama from my 2009 trip to Antarctica. The scene shown is from a narrow channel known as the “Gullet” that lies between the mainland and Adelaide Island. Very few ships get this far south and even fewer get to see the area with weather conditions such as we had. Alien Skin Exposure 3

A week or so back I received a note from Alien Skin to say that a version of Exposure 3 had been released for Lightroom, and asked if I would be interested in giving it a try. Now, I have to say from the outset that I’ve never been into filter effects when taking photographs and am even less so when editing them in Photoshop or Lightroom. Nevertheless, the information provided on their website looked interesting, so I downloaded a copy and gave it a whirl.
