In late January through early February 2006 I was
privileged to participate in a photographic expedition to the Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks in the USA. The
group
comprised of 8 photographers, which included the
organisers by Roger Reynolds (Immediate Past President of the
Royal
Photographic Society) and Peter Morss of
Photo Ventures.
The first few days
of the trip were spent in and around Jackson Hole, which gave us quick and
easy access to the Grand Teton National Park. During the
Yellowstone leg of the trip we visited and photographed locations such
as: The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Hayden Valley, Norris, Lower,
Midway and Upper Geyser Basins as well as many other fantastic locations
such as Blacks Sands Basin, The Firehole River Drive, Biscuit Basin, The
Madison River Valley, Mammoth Hot Spring Terrace, along with many
Geysers in the area around Old
Faithful. My my good friend Michael Reichmann at
Luminous Landscape had previously
told me that winter in Yellowstone provides a feast of photographic
opportunities; he wasn't exaggerating.
The one thing that makes
Yellowstone in winter such a spectacular location is the sub zero
climate. However with the Roger and Peters experience of conditions in
this area they were able to ensure that all tour members survived the
conditions and managed to get some very good images. The following
series of images are just a small sample of over 1700 that I managed to capture.
